I have ambivalence about judging contests, but jumped at the chance to be in on this Skuna Bay Salmon competition. SO glad I did―chef Andrew Sutton's tripartite dish was sososo FAB. (No surprise at all that he advanced to the finals at the next level.)

Even if, like me, doughnuts aren't a major thing for you, a visit to Sidecar should be made at your earlier opportunity. If only for the fab Stumptown coffee! But I have a feeling you'll be leaving with a doughnut, too.

I've shopped the little farmers market on the Irvine/Tustin border for years... now, it's moving. Temporarily, and not too far away from the original location. But still―hope it makes its way back home.

Ah, tea. I like the kind of company that invests a cool $15K in a tea-preparation machine. Even those who don't believe, as I do, in the ultimate supremacy of tea, should take notice. The Seventh/Portola people have enough belief for all of us.

OCFN readers already know how I feel about duck, so this was an especially propitious theme for a food-blogger gathering. A positively quacking afternoon.

Sure, a fab-sounding dinner program is coming any day now to Early Bird... but breakfast/lunch ain't no slouch.

There is no shortage, In Today's World, of artisanal, handmade, small-batch, local-produce blahblahblah preserves jams jellies pickles relishes. High-end grocery shelves are lousy with them, in fact. And, in fact, many of them are, yes, lousy.

Not so O.C.'s own chef Jamie Gwen's In a Jam preserves. In generous 16-ounce jars rather than the twee thimbles many New Homesteading-type DIYers offer, with a flavor blast created with good ingredients in good recipes with good technique, Gwen's In A Jam jams are fab.
