Orange Coast Magazine has initiated its own food blog, Taste of Orange County. And we know in advance it'll be worth reading because its author is Cynthia Furey, familiar to us all from her work at the OC Register as well as her own food blog, Furey and the Feast, which, thankfully, looks as though it'll be carrying on as well.

Me too! And as you already know, Joan, it's a good complement to Cynthia's personal food blog, Furey and the Feast.

A few months ago, the lovely and talented Ms. Cynthia Furey stepped down from this blog as she takes her writing career in a new direction. She wondered if I might be interested in speaking with her editors at the mag. I was! And coincidental to this, Orange Coast Magazine was hatching a complete redesign of its website, which launched today and includes my inaugural Taste of Orange County posts. Please, have a look -- Taste of Orange County

Posted Monday, the third in the staff favorite recipes series taking off from the December print cover featuring fab OC desserts. This, a cream cheese pound cake from Art Director Mindy Benham is put right over the top with lime glaze: That backyard lime tree?serendipity, or evidence of a Larger Plan?

Today on Taste of Orange County, my leetle visit with Eric Ripert, the new friend I brought home as a result, and a few words about caviar. Going to see a man about a fish

As indicated in yesterday's ToOC post, today's features the whole roasted snapper recipe from Eric Ripert's Avec Eric, companion book to the mutually eponymous PBS show. Really, really good. And will be even when I'm on my own picking out a fish for it, too, I predict. 'Avec Eric,' a whole fish, a great dish

Friday on ToOC, the fourth in our staff dessert recipe roundup, this time featuring the work of our own Cynthia Furey, she of the eponymous Furey and the Feast blog and myriad other writerly endeavors. Here, Cynthia muses on just how one might fit gobs of brown sugar into normal, healthy, adult life, and comes up with a fine method. OC Mag staff faves: Brown sugar delivery system

Today in ToOC, the penultimate recipe in the staff dessert favorites roundup, from the mag's Editor in Chief. Could not have a better provenance, neither. Martin J. Smiith's Southern Mom's Southern Pecan Pralines Now THAT's what I'm talking about.

In today's ToOC, a bonus recipe from Eric Ripert's Avec Eric, the companion book to his very good PBS series. The thing is, it's for a granola. Which is kind of weird when we're talking about Mr. Eric Ripert, but no less delicious and useful for so being. If I have one piece of advice for you as 2010 inexorably turns into 2011, and believe me I have many more than just the one but this will have to suffice for the moment--MAKE THIS GRANOLA. It is delicious, and adamantly PACKED with whole-foods nutrition. With the seeds and nuts I chose--pepitas, sunflower kernels, and flax, sliced almonds and maybe a handful of MRM walnuts, it has 132 calories per ounce. Eminently doable in a sensible diet, even a diet diet, so long as one sticks to a measured amount, eh? Nobody expects Honey Granola!!!

And today, the final recipe in our dessert roundup of Orange Coast mag staff favorites. It's from me, your Taste of Orange County food blogger! It's a deceptively unprepossessing gingersnap, a long-time favorite project of mine shared with the world for the first time. NB, it is NOT for the ginger-averse. Double depth-charged gingersnaps Merry Christmas, everybody!!!!!
