Unprepossessing is an understatement, but oh the cabeza.

Taqueria Guadalupana carnitas, pastor, lengua, tacos, burritos, what are considered the Platonic idea of tortas by the torta eaters in my household. It is, as they say, ALL good.

So good one time we were sitting in there after having thrift shopped at the conveniently-in-the-same-center Sheepfold and Family Thrift as per usual, and a train creaked and groaned to a halt over there across Orange-Olive. Two guys alighted, made their way across the tracks and the right-of-way, across the street, into Taqueria Guadalupana. A place so good that trains stop in the middle of the track to go there, THAT is HOW GOOD it is.

And the people there are nice, too.

Wow, makes me wish I ate meat, just to try the taco that stopped a train in its tracks...

Is lengua technically meat? Because if it's not, their langua is absolutely divine. I like it in a torta, but like any of the other avaliable meats, you can also get it in a taco or burrito,

I think it's meat, because it is a muscle, ain't it?

Yeah, if you hack it out of an animal, it's meat.

True Joan, true.

Some other great tacos - Carnitas Los Reyes in Orange. Chorizo taco is really unique. In a very good way. Carnitas are great... lengua... barbacoa... seriously authentic hole-in-the-wall food. They have weak salsa though, surprisingly.

Aaaah a lovely revisit to Taqueria Guadalupana.

Everything, I am happy to report, just the same or even better. And the same lovely people who've worked there the whole time, all these years. So sweet.

I could detail all the things we ordered, but suffice to say, it was all the greatest hits, and GREATEST HITS they were. Still the absolute best. I mean, by a country mile.

Must not have such a long respite between visits going forward.

SO GOOD, again, when Ivan and I stopped in after the new Orange Farmers Market last Saturday.

Repetitive, I know! But it can't be helped. It just IS.
