Used a small, 14-oz.-whatever can of
Italian organic chopped Carmelina tomatoes today in a freeeee lentil soup. Really excellent tomatoes. The can was absolutely packed with product, with perhaps 2 T. of liquid. I intended to drain and add only as much liquid as I wanted, but this was made moot by the nearly complete absence of liquid!
Anyway, an excellent product. This smaller-size-can organic chopped is but one of their varieties.
Cursory research on the internets reveals that Carmelina is imported by
Mangia, Inc., headquartered right here in Mission Viejo, kind of a nice surprise.
I can't remember whether I got these most recent ones at
Claro's or
Whole Food at the District at Tustin Legacy, but they both carry them, at least desultorily. And in a pinch or if one is in need of 24 cans, Amazon.com has 'em as well.
A good development, in the world of OC canned tomatoes.
