Would like to know where such tomatoes are reliably found.

I luck into Cento with no junk sometimes at regular supermarkets, but Cento also has tomatoes w/junk so it's a label-reading situation every time.

Pomi in the box is good, and in a lot of stores, but maybe not as good as Cento no-junk. But no junk, and I like the packaging, so that's 2 points for Pomi.

Claro's, with all those tomatoes, although the stock does wax and wane, don't it, has hardly any without junk, whether DOP San Marzanos or domestic.

Once at the 99 Cents Only store I took a chance on a can of puree from CA that tasted great, made fantastic sauce. Wish I'd bought a bunch! But who knew.

Tomatoes, anyone?

Priscilla - I just realized that you mention Claro's in a few different posts, so obviously I didn't need to tell you to get canned tomatoes there.

Even so, I still love them lots. tongue.gif

Hee. I love our Tustin Claro's for a million reasons for years and years.

And I do find tomatoes w/no junk there, but have to label-read to make sure.

Did I start a dedicated Claro's topic? If not I will.

Used a small, 14-oz.-whatever can of Italian organic chopped Carmelina tomatoes today in a freeeee lentil soup. Really excellent tomatoes. The can was absolutely packed with product, with perhaps 2 T. of liquid. I intended to drain and add only as much liquid as I wanted, but this was made moot by the nearly complete absence of liquid!

Anyway, an excellent product. This smaller-size-can organic chopped is but one of their varieties.

Cursory research on the internets reveals that Carmelina is imported by Mangia, Inc., headquartered right here in Mission Viejo, kind of a nice surprise.

I can't remember whether I got these most recent ones at Claro's or Whole Food at the District at Tustin Legacy, but they both carry them, at least desultorily. And in a pinch or if one is in need of 24 cans, Amazon.com has 'em as well.

A good development, in the world of OC canned tomatoes.

Seemed sensible to post this here, a sort of where-are-they-now trip. The gist is, THEY EXIST!!!
Great tomatoes with NO JUNK?the local part is just gravy
I'd also still be interested in other no-junk tomatoes out there... so continue to keep your eyes peeled!
